- Primary Goals:
- Flood Mitigation: Developing sustainable solutions for recurrent flooding in the basin.
- Water Security: Managing resources for both agricultural irrigation and human consumption.
- Agricultural Revitalization: Modernizing irrigation to boost local farming productivity.
- Current Status:
- Recent tenders (closing in April 2025) have focused on "Component 2," which aims at developing profitable and sustainable agricultural systems.
- Consultancy and feasibility studies for river restoration and management have been ongoing as part of the broader project rollout.
Related Recent Activity
While MoWRAM leads the large-scale irrigation and river restoration, other organizations are active in the same district:
- World Vision: Recently inaugurated 29 community water distribution systems in Svay Chek (March 2025) to provide clean water to over 8,000 families.
- Climate Resilience: The project is part of a larger push by MoWRAM to make Cambodia's water management climate-adaptive, particularly in the northern and north-western regions.
